Our old barn has many problems but we are tackling them one at at time. The particular problem we tackled over break was a door/wall that didn't function very well as either.
Starting at noon on Sunday with a trip to Lowes, this is how we progressed.
As you can see it didn't function very good as a wall or a door (it didn't open). Notice all the light coming through just about everywhere.
It was held up outside by those plywood triangles at the top.. And the metal frames
propped at the bottom
So we went inside and built a wall frame out of 2x4's. Notice how there is NOTHING square about the hole. That was enough for Sunday afternoon.
Monday Morning:
Once we had the frame for the wall and window done, we used the tractor to take down the old wall/door. We set it aside to use parts of it later.
Next we put up a outside covering of OSB. The top piece was a little aggravating because of the height.
Next we fitted in our new window we bought at Lowes...
And screwed it in place...
Lunch at Hardees....
After lunch we took the old door/wall apart and reused the exterior boards to make it the
new wall match the rest of the barn.
Tuesday Morning:
We fitted OSB to the interior frame. The bottom piece was a breeze but the top one was a real
pain. Remember above when I said NOTHING was square? It was worse on the inside...
Once we had the OSB fitted we found some scrap molding and framed the window..
Tada!!!! Done at noon on Tuesday.
